Missourians on Mission began as a Mission Project of the Mission Chapel Baptist Church at Elkland MO in 1989 with a trip to Hettinger North Dakota. There were 36 people from 7 different churches who participated in that adventure. The intent was never to create an ongoing organization as has developed. But someone asked before we left Hettinger where we were going next year and the concept of a yearly group trip was formulated. For the next few years the group was recognized under several names as different churches sponsored the projects. Then in 1994 a decision was made to incorporate under the banner of Missourians on Mission. We are a Not for Profit corporation, registered in the State of Missouri. We are also recognized by the Internal Revenue Service to accept gifts under tax code 501(c)(3). For a full definition of that code please consult your tax adviser.
Membership consists of those who have an interest in Volunteer Missions. There are no membership dues and anyone who so desires is placed on our mailing list which currently stands at slightly over 500 persons. The group has people from all over Missouri as well as Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
Each year two locations are selected as projects with one located inside of the state of Missouri and the other outside the state. These projects usually last for one week each during June and August. An interest form is sent once a year to the entire mailing list and returned as individuals may feel led to participate.
Once an interested group is formed they are then sent a packet of information about the projects and asked for a commitment. At this point participants are asked to pay a $10.00 per family administration fee and $40.00 per person meal charge which covers 14 meals during the week we are working on a project. Housing is offered in the homes of the host church members and arrangements are made for RV parking as well as locating suitable motels. All costs of housing are the expense of the participants along with transportation to and from the project. There are caps, T-shirts and name tags which are offered to participants each year at cost.
